Fire Suffer Season Ending Loss to St. Francis

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Fire suffered a season ending, 3-0 loss to the University of St. Francis this evening in the opening round of the NAIA Softball Championships.

Susan Hinks tossed a no-hitter through three innings before the Fighting Saints took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth on back-to-back solo home runs. Hinks ended the day giving up a total of three earned runs on six hits and two walks.

An RBI single in the top of the fifth gave St. Francis their third and final run of the game.

USF pitcher, Morghan Dieringer, held the Fire to just two hits on the evening, both of which belonged to Bri Girardin in the third and sixth innings.

The 2015 Fire softball team ended its season 40-14 and was the first squad in program history to play in the NAIA National Tourney.
