Softball Suffers First TSC Tourney Loss

CLERMONT, Fla. – Sixth-seeded Ave Maria continued its run of Top 25 victories, defeating #15 Southeastern, 3-1 to advance to The Sun Conference Championship tomorrow.

The No. 1 and No. 6 teams battled through four and a half scoreless innings before the Fire put their first and only run on the board in the bottom of the fifth per a Gyrene error.

Ave Maria came back to score three in the top of the sixth on four hits and a Fire error.

The Fire managed to load the bases in the bottom of the sixth, but weren't able to capitalize on the opportunity.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Fire had yet another chance with runners on first and second and the winning run at the plate, but a line out to left ended the game.

The Gyrenes outhit the Fire 10-3 with two of the Fire's hits belonging to Kaleigh Floyd who was 2-for-3 on the day.

The Fire will play their third game in the double elimination tourney tomorrow at 12 p.m. in Clermont. Their opponent will be determined later this evening.
