Box Score CLERMONT, Fla. – The Fire added a tenth game to their win streak today defeating the Eagles of Embry-Riddle in their first game of The Sun Conference tourney. Down 2-1 after one, the Fire worked their way back to down the Eagles 5-3.
The Eagles took an early two-run lead in the top of the first on four hits, but a Cat Maldonado RBI single in the bottom brought the Fire within one.
The score remained 2-1 through three and a half, but only after the Fire managed to get out of a two-on no-out jam in the top of the fourth.
In the bottom, a leadoff triple by Brittany LaCasse put the tying run on third. One batter and one out later Anna Martin bunted for an RBI that knotted the score at two. Sam Gale followed with a double then Brandee Pietrzak reached on a fielder's choice that was the second out. A first and third situation resulted in the last out, but not before Gale crossed the plate to take the lead for good, 3-2.
A two run single by LaCasse in the fifth made it 5-2 Fire, then a single Eagle run on two hits in the top of the seventh put the final run on the board.
The Eagles outhit the Fire 14-8, but left 12 on base.
LaCasse went 3-for-3 with two RBI's and two runs scored.
Maldonado moved to 12-1 in the circle pitching the final four innings and giving up just five hits and one run and striking out two.
The Fire will take on the No. 6 Ave Maria University Gyrenes tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. at the NTC in Clermont.
