Fire Down Lions on Senior Day

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Fire honored their five seniors this afternoon with an 88-58 victory over the Lions Florida Memorial.

After being celebrated for their accomplishments, Dana Thomas, Jordan Talley, Karsten Olson, Andre' Winston, and Tim Mitchell took to the court as the starting five in their last regular season game at the Furnace.

The Fire jumped to a 5-0 lead less than a minute in with a bucket by Mitchell and a 3-pointer by Olson. Three straight points by Winston put the Fire up 8-0 before the Lions put their first two on the board.

Up 20-9 at the 9:47 mark, the Fire went on a 16-4 run to realize their largest lead of the half, up 36-13, with 2:10 to play.

The Fire continued to pound the boards in the second half, connecting on 59% from the field and going 5-for-12 from long range. They stretched their lead as far as 33 with 2:49 to play.

A slam dunk finale by Matthew Craig concluded the scoring with the Fire ahead by 30.

Leading all scorers was Winston with 25 points while Mitchell finished the day with nine points and 10 rebounds. Xavier Burrow also recorded double digits with 11 points including three of the Fire's eight 3-point buckets.

The Fire conclude the regular season 16-11 overall, 10-8 TSC, and are seeded third heading into post season play. They prepare to host Thomas on Thursday in quarterfinal play scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
