Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – The Fire redeemed themselves against the Webber Warriors this evening with a 71-58 victory after falling in Babson Park earlier in the year.
As has been the story throughout the season, the Fire's outside shooting kept them in the game despite 21 turnovers. Just five Fire players combined for 17 3-point buckets with each contributor hitting at least two. Alyssa Ramos led the pack with five, good for her team high 15 points on the night.
Basket number one belonged to the Warriors, but consecutive buckets by Carlie Newman, including one of her four 3-pointers, gave the Fire the lead for good at the 18:26 mark.
The Warriors managed to keep the deficit within single digits until the 2:48 mark when the Fire went up 32-22. Four unanswered Warrior points narrowed the buffer to six at half, 32-26.
A 17-4 run by the Fire late in the second half gave them their largest lead, up 16 with 2:49 to play.
Newman and Cassidy Block were also in double digits with 14 points and 10 points, respectively, while both snagged eight off the boards. Additional 3-point bucket contributors were Emma Loucks and Bailey Hooker, each with three, and Tiara Young who connected on two.
"It was a great win tonight against a very good defensive team," said Coach Jody Martinez. "We did a really good job executing the game plan of being patient on offense and we shot the ball with great confidence."
The Fire will be joined by Florida Memorial on Saturday in their final regular season matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Furnace.
