Box Score THOMASVILLE, Ga.- Southeastern picked up its 21st win of the season with a 68-56 win over Thomas University Tuesday night.
In the first half, the hosts were just 6-of-23 from the field, and missed all three of their 3-point shots. Meanwhile, the Fire knocked down 10 of their 32 shots in the first half; eight of which were from beyond the arc to help SEU take a 34-19 lead at the break.
A 3-pointer by Tiara Young gave the Fire their biggest lead of the game with 15:22 to go at 45-25. A quick 7-0 run by the hosts brought them within 13, but a 3-pointer by Alyssa Ramos, and a pair of Cassidy Block free throws pushed the Southeastern advantage to 18 (53-35) with 10:49 left.
However, following the free throw by Block, the Fire went nearly eight minutes without a basket, allowing Thomas to cut the advantage down to nine with 3:33 to go. Emma Loucks, who was key to SEU's success last week, ended the drought with a three-point play at the 3:16 mark to push the lead to 12, and allow the Fire to control the balance of the contest.
Ramos was the game's leading scorer with 21 points, which included hitting five 3-pointers. Tiara Young, Block, and Loucks added 10 points apiece. Carlie Newman recorded a team-best nine rebounds to go along with her nine points. Loucks also contributed eight rebounds. Surprisingly, Southeastern was outrebounded 41-36.
The Southeastern defense recorded six steals, and forced 19 Thomas turnovers.
The Fire return to action on Thursday when they take on Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach at 5:30.
