Box Score LAKELAND, Fla.—For a second year in a row, the Fire men's basketball team was upset by Johnson and Wales University while ranked in the Top 25.
Southeastern suffered its third straight loss with a 99-64 loss, falling to 0-2 in Sun Conference play.
The 14
th-ranked Fire fell in to an early 10-point hole, down 12-2 with 14:55 left in the first half. SEU committed three turnovers, and missed five shots before finally getting on the board 4:35 into the contest.
SEU got no closer than eight in the first half, and the Wildcats ended the half with a 40-28 lead, with the Fire just 33% from the field in the opening 20 minutes.
After a basket by
Isaac Barsh to open the half, Johnson and Wales went on an 8-0 run to take a 48-30 lead with 18:05 left, and would never allow the Fire to get any closer than 16.
Deshawn Wilcox led the Fire in scoring with 15 points in 20 minutes.
Elijah Ray was also in double figures with 12 points, and
Caleb Konieczny added 10.
SEU was outrebounded 49-26.
The Fire return to action on Saturday, when they host 19
th-ranked St. Francis at 3 p.m.
