Hot Shooting Helps Fire Upset #6 Cardinal Stritch

MILWAUKEE, Wisc.—A 53% field goal shooting night helped the Fire women's basketball team score its first win over a Top 10 team in program history with a 77-72 win at sixth-ranked Cardinal Stritch.

The Fire (8-3) shot 60% from the field in the second half, and hit four of their six three-point attempts in the final 20 minutes to come away with the win.

Despite giving up a total of 24 offensive rebounds, scoring 25 second chance points, and scoring 23 points off of SEU's 16 turnovers, the Wolves (12-3) were unable to get their offense going, shooting 37% from the field, and just 26% from 3-point range.

After trailing by five with 2:59 left in the first, the Fire got a basket from Tiara Young and a 3-pointer from Ali Sanders to make it a two-point game at the end of the first. The guests closed the second quarter on a 13-4 run to go from down seven to up two at the intermission. A pair of 3-pointers by Kristen Scholl, and a 3-ball by Ramos helped cut the deficit.

With her team up 52-51 to start the fourth quarter, Christin Strawbridge scored 10 of her game-high 18 points in the fourth quarter, and added a rebound and a block to push the team to victory. Strawbridge finished with 10 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks in 38 minutes.

As a team, the Fire were 14-of-15 at the free throw line in the final quarter, with most of the quarter played in a one- or two-possession game.

Sanders matched Strawbridge with 18 points, and had four assists. Bailey Hooker added 17 points, connecting on three 3-pointers, and going 6-of-8 from the field.

Southeastern will close out its week-long trip on Saturday in Chicago against Robert Morris University.
