Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, FLA.-- For the second straight year, the Southeastern University women's soccer team couldn't find a way to advance past the Sun Conference quarterfinal match. In a disappointing contest, the season for the sixth-seeded Fire came to an end at the hands of the #3 seed St. Thomas University Bobcats by a score of 3-0.
SEU ends the season with a 10-7 overall record. St. Thomas improves to 11-6 on the year and moves on to the semifinals to face #2 seed Keiser.
The Fire played on their heels for most of the contest, as they were constantly fighting from their own half of the pitch. STU outshot SEU 20-6 for the match.
Goals by Alexa Rivera (5'), Sharon Tejada (44'), and Kortney Hinden (70') proved to be all the offense the Bobcats would need to advance to the next round.
"St. Thomas had a fantastic day and hats go off to them," said interim coach
Randy Belli. "We wish them the best of luck as they move forward in the tournament."
"I want to celebrate our five seniors that made a tremendous impact on our program," said Belli. "Some of them have been here four years and some only one, but each one of their impacts have been felt. They always have a home to come back to at Southeastern."
After two straight 10-7 seasons, the women's soccer program will look to take the next step and contend for a Sun Conference title in 2016.
"They're getting better and that's all we can ask them to do. We'll have our seniors along with our new group of freshman and we'll push them forward," commented Belli.
