LAKELAND, Fla.—The Southeastern football team has its final two tests of its second season ahead with a trip to Charleston, South Carolina to take on Benedict College.
Last week, the Fire capped off a 4-1 Sun Conference slate with a 35-21 win over county rival Webber International, going unbeaten in Polk County.
"It is very important for our coaching staff and for our players that we are the best team in this county," said coach
Keith Barefield.
The Fire came up with scores on offense, defense, and special teams to come up with the win. The defense also held the Warriors' rushing attack to just 151 yards and an average of 3.2 yards per carry.
"One of the biggest things was keeping our offense on the field and making sure Webber had a long field to work with," said Barefield.
Benedict, an NCAA Division II school, is 0-9 on the season, coming off of a 35-9 loss at Albany State in its final Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game of the year.
The Tigers have struggled to run the ball (1.9 yards per carry) and stop the run (5.4 opponent yards per carry) this season. Individually, Okechi Ntiasagwe is the squad's leading receiver for a second year with 13 catches for 260 yards and three touchdowns.
"They're looking at an opportunity to get us on their home turf and get a win to close out the season," said Barefield. "We need to continue to win the battle of field position, we have to, again, stop the run, and on offense, we need to control the ball."

The Fire return home next week to Victory Field for the regular season finale.
