Box Score FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Southeastern women's basketball defeated its second consecutive NCAA Division II squad this afternoon, beating the Wildcats of Fort Valley State University 61-49.
The Fire took off running in the first quarter with two
Alyssa Ramos long balls for a 6-2 lead just under a minute into the game. A 14-0 run gave the Fire their largest lead of the game up 20-2 with 3:17 to play.
The quarter ended 23-6 then the Wildcats finally reached double digits at the 7:30 mark of the second quarter as the scoreboard showed 25-11. They outscored the Fire 12-9 in the second quarter, but the Fire still enjoyed a 14 point buffer at half up 32-18.
Wildcat Shereba Montgomery and Ramos traded baskets to start the third quarter, Ramos with her fourth 3-pointer of the night, then the Wildcats put up nine unanswered points to make it 35-29 at the 6:13 mark.
Three quarters in the score was 46-38. The Fire went on a 12-4 run to lead 58-42 with 2:51 to play. The Wildcats turned on the afterburners a little too late, outscoring the Fire 7-2 in the final minutes, but it was 61-49 Fire when the buzzer sounded.
Ramos led all scorers with 23 points and sunk an impressive 7-of-12 3-point attempts.
Ali Sanders followed with 14 and
Christin Strawbridge had 10. The Fire were 38% from the field, 40% from the arc, and 77% from the line.
They will take on Georgia Southwestern State University tomorrow in the final game of their road trip. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Americus, Georgia.
