Women’s Basketball Prepares for Trinity Baptist

LAKELAND, Fla. – After an impressive season opening 62-58 victory over #21 Madonna University, the Fire will take the court again on Friday, this time against the Eagles of Trinity Baptist College.

Bailey Hooker, a junior guard, led the Fire with 16 points. She also recorded eight boards, two blocks and shot 44% from the field.

Florida Southern transfers Ali Sanders and Christin Strawbridge also impressed as Sanders trailed Hooker by a single point and was perfect from the free throw line. Strawbridge led the team with 12 rebounds and shot 46% from the field for 14 total points.

"It was exciting to take down a Top 25 team," said Head Coach Leann Dahlstein. "We really wanted to start off the season strong and I think we did that."

The Trinity Baptist Eagles will travel to Lakeland with a 2-3 record, most recently defeating Trinity College 85-55. Kaneesha Ellick and Jalena Hawkins lead the Eagles as Ellick put up 30 in their first win of the season over Johnson & Wales North Carolina. Hawkins nearly recorded a triple double in their latest win over Trinity College with 27 points, 11 rebounds and nine steals.

"Trinity Baptist will be a game where we can really work on some of our skills," said Dahlstein. "We will approach the game like any other; prepared to stay focused and to play as hard as we can."

Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at The Furnace. Stay up to date with scores by following @SEUFireWBB on Twitter.
