Fire Suffer First TSC Loss to Wildcats

Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – Southeastern men's soccer fell to Johnson and Wales this evening, 4-3, for their first Sun Conference loss of the season.

The first two goals of the game were in the 14th minute and separated by just 24 seconds. The Wildcats drew first blood before Alan Hackney countered, assisted by Gerritson Craane, with a hard strike over the keeper's left shoulder to knot it at one.

The Wildcats scored twice more in the 35th and 41st minutes before Pedro Ivo Dias cut the deficit in half in the 42nd. His free kick from 25 yards out bounced off the cross bar then hit the keeper before finding the net.

In the 54th minute, a Craane to Camilo Mejia to Ivo Dias combination resulted in the Fire's third goal of the game and a tie score.

Threes remained on the board until the 81st when the Wildcats' Travis Langhorne netted the game winner from Mark Zigbou.

Shots were even as both teams fired 12. Jake Van Der Luit and Ivo Dias combined for seven total shots on the night.

"Johnson and Wales came out strong and we just didn't sustain very well," said Coach Clay Roberts. "Coming out in the second half we started to play our game and got back in it but a late mistake put us down again. That seems to be the one little hurdle that keeps getting us and we need to fix that."

The Fire (5-4, 1-1 TSC) will continue Sun Conference play on Wednesday as they take on St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
