LAKELAND, FLA.-- After a frustrating road trip to Georgia, the Fire women's soccer team are looking get back to their winning ways this week as they'll host Warner University Wednesday evening and then pay rival Webber International University a visit Saturday afternoon.
Against SCAD last week to start the road trip, the Bees scored three goals before the Fire could register a goal of their own to stay undefeated in conference play.
A couple of days later, the Fire went down to Thomasville to play the Night Hawks of Thomas. TU went up by two goals until SEU tied the contest after goals by
Bre Eldridge and
Shayna Cole. The Night Hawks put the game away late in the second half with two more goals to take the contest 4-2.
Going into this week, the Fire stand at 3-4 in Sun Conference play and 8-5 overall.
Warner is coming to town Wednesday evening. The Royals are 1-6 in conference play and 4-6 overall. Jamie Murray leads the team in goals with 13 goals scored so far this season.
"Warner is a team who looks to find Murray. We need to shut her down and possess around them," said coach
Renee Lopez. "We need to take advantage of their low pressure system from the beginning of the game."
The Fire have another important Sun Conference game Saturday afternoon as they'll go to Babson Park to take on Webber International. The Warriors are 3-4 in conference play and 3-8 overall. Cierra Abundez leads the team in goals (15), assists (4), shots (60), and shots on goal (34).
Lopez commented, "Webber is a very physical team who look to always find Abundez up top. If we can play our game for 90 minutes, we look to take advantage and move up in the standings."
