LAKELAND, Fla.—After an 11-day hiatus, the Fire volleyball team is back in action with three matches this week.
It starts today with a rematch against Trinity College in New Port Richey. The two teams met on September 15
th in The Furnace with the host Fire coming away with a 3-0 victory. After a tight first set going SEU's way 25-21, the Fire closed out the match with 25-10 and 25-9 wins.
That night, the Fire were coming off a week long stretch without a game.
The Fire will be in action during Homecoming weekend with a pair of conference games. On Friday, Southeastern will entertain Ave Maria at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, will host Keiser at 2 p.m.
The Gyrenes are currently 1-4 in conference play, and boast a 12-8 overall record. Lexy Smith will post a challenge for the Fire; she is currently eighth in the NAIA in hitting percentage at .377, is 29
th in blocks per game at 1.12, and 31
st in kills per set at 3.66.
Keiser is 16-7, with a 2-2 league record, and has split its last four matches. The Seahawks boast one of the better service games in The Sun Conference, averaging 2.3 aces per set, and have registered a total of 183 aces on the season, ranking eighth in the NAIA. Reigning conference setter of the week Nicole Papineau averages 9.4 assists per set, which is 39
th in the NAIA.
After Saturday, the Fire will have faced every team in The Sun Conference once, and begin their second circuit through the league on Monday when they host St. Thomas.
