Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. -- There was a brief scare, but the Fire were about to come out on top in a close win over Sun Conference rival Florida Memorial, 2-1.
The Fire (8-3, 3-2 TSC) finished the first half down 1-0. Petrice Brooks scored her fifth goal of the year in the 32nd minute.
"I'm again pleased with our girls' effort in the second half. We were determined at halftime to not lose this game," said coach
Renee Lopez. "Our girls had a great work rate and commitment to excellence in that second half."
Bre Eldridge tied the game at one in the 69th minute and then gave the Fire the lead in the 83rd minute on a free kick. The goals were her fifth and sixth goals of the year.
"Congratulations to Bre in finishing both those goals and for our back line staying organized and shutting down Brooks in the second half," commented Lopez.
With the loss, the Lions fall to 1-9 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
The Fire are back in action Thursday when they travel up to Savannah, Georgia in a Sun Conference matchup to take on the Savannah College of Art and Design. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
