Women’s Basketball Downs Warner

Box Score LAKE WALES, FLA. – It took a little while for the Fire to break away, but when they did, they didn't look back as Southeastern took care of business against the Royals, winning 64-50. With the victory, SEU improves to 9-2 in Sun Conference play and 18-5 overall.
Neither team led by more than three as the first half chugged by. After a six point run by Warner (5-14, 1-9 TSC), the Fire tied it up on a three-pointer from Bailey Hooker with 8:04 left in the first half. Once the Fire took the lead a minute later on another three-ball from Carlie Newman, they didn't look back. SEU held the lead going into the locker room and furthered themselves from the Royals even more in the second half.
The Fire went on a ferocious 14-4 run to start the second half that seemed to take the air out of the Royals.
"I was real proud of our defensive effort in the second half," commented coach Jody Martinez. He had every right to be–the team clamped down on defense, holding Warner to only 19 second half points.
On the offensive side of the ball, it was a total team effort. The ball movement was fluid and smooth, and the stat sheet reflected that. Newman finished with 10 points and seven rebounds, Alyssa Ramos scored 12, and Cassidy Block had 10 points on six rebounds as well. Bailey Hooker and Emma Loucks got in on the scoring action too, as they both finished with nine points each.
The Fire play conference opponents for the rest of the season. Their next game will be Thursday, as they host rival Johnson & Wales. Tipoff is set for 5:30pm.
