Fire Rally, Fall at Warner

Box Score

LAKE WALES, FLA. – Too little, too late. It's the disappointing summary of Southeastern's week in men's hoops. After digging themselves in a 14-point hole at the half, the Fire valiantly fought back but fell just short, losing to the Warner Royals, 65-61.

With the loss, SEU falls to 6-5 in conference play and 12-8 overall. The Fire kept shooting themselves in the foot, in the form of 14 first half turnovers. Warner built their first half lead up to 18 at one point, but the Fire were planning their comeback in the second half.

Slowly but surely, the Fire chipped away at the Royal's lead. With 14:55 to go, the Fire made it a single-digit deficit on a 3-point basket from Dana Thomas. Another 3-ball from Thomas with 7:58 remaining made it a one-point Warner lead, but sadly, that was as close as the Fire were going to get for the rest of the game. SEU couldn't bring the equalizer or jump ahead as the Royals managed to stay one step ahead for the rest of the contest.

Free throw shooting was a problem for SEU, as they were able to convert on only 5-11 of their attempts. Andre' Winston led the scoring charge for the Fire, bringing in 17 points and six rebounds. Dana Thomas scored 15 and five rebounds.

Southeastern will try to get back on the right track Thursday night, as they will try to avenge their previous loss to Johnson & Wales. Tipoff is set for 7:30 in the Furnace.
