Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- A total of 25 turnovers resulted in a 70-54 Sun Conference loss for Southeastern at St. Thomas Saturday afternoon.
The Fire (7-4, 1-1 TSC) rallied from an early six-point deficit to take a 22-20 lead with 5:21 left in the first on five straight points by Jackie Sweasey in addition to a 3-pointer by Kristen Scholl. St. Thomas (8-3, 1-0 TSC) quickly answered with a 10-0 run in less than two minutes to take their biggest lead of the first half with 3:35 to go (30-22).
During the run, the Fire had the ball stolen on four consecutive possessions. At the half, the Bobcats went to the locker room leading 36-30.
The second half started with a 7-1 run by the Bobcats to help build a 12-point lead with 15:12 to play. The lead expanded to as much as 22 with 8:05 to play, then again with 3:45 left.
Of SEU's 25 turnovers, 19 were the result of steals by the Bobcats. The Fire connected on 10 3-point attempts, while the hosts were 0-for-11 from bonus range, but it wasn't enough to overcome the offensive miscues.
Junior Kristen Scholl paced the Fire with a team-best 11 points. Sophomore Alyssa Ramos followed with nine points, two assists, and a steal. Emma Loucks recorded a team-best six rebounds.
The Fire return to action Monday at 5:00 p.m. against Tennessee Temple at The Furnace.
