Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Fire notched conference win number five this evening with a 92-84 victory over the Warriors of Webber International University.
In a closely matched first half there were five tie scores, and four lead changes, but the Warriors never bested the Fire by more than four.
The margin remained in single digits until late in the half when the Fire went on a 14-2 run to take the lead for good and go up by 10 at the 2:07 mark. They would head into the locker room at half with the same cushion, up 50-40.
The Fire maintained the lead throughout the second half, stretching it as far as 15. A 9-1 Warrior run in the final two minutes put them within six at the 1:05 mark, and twice more with 31 and 19 seconds to play, but it wasn't enough to extinguish the Fire.
Andre' Winston led all scorers with 23 points while Dana Thomas recorded his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Double digits were also contributed by Caleb Konieczny and Jordan Talley as they both finished with 11 points.
"We showed signs of maturity by being able to finish the game, granted our defense wasn't nearly what it needed to be," said Coach R-Jay Barsh. "But anytime you can get a win in The Sun Conference on the road is a good day, so we're excited to get this one out of the way."
With the win, the Fire improve to 11-5 on the season and 5-2 in the conference. They head to Miami Gardens on Thursday for an 8:00 tipoff with Florida Memorial University.
