LAKELAND, Fla. – In a heated conference battle this afternoon, the Fire (6-2-1) fell to second ranked Thomas University (7-0-2) in overtime, 3-2.

Down 1-0 at half after a Thomas goal in the 23rd minute, Gerritson Craane evened the score in the 68th. The goal came as a result of a free kick taken by Ashton Hicks, credited for his third assist on the season, and finished by Craane.

The Fire took their only lead of the game in the 71st minute when Pedro Ivo Dias fired a penalty kick that met the back of the net, putting the Fire up 2-1.

The last goal in regulation belonged to Thomas in the 74th minute, tying the score once again, 2-2, and sending the game into overtime.

Thomas put the golden goal in the net with 2:22 left in the first overtime period.

"I'm really proud of our team," said Coach Clay Roberts. "Against the number two team in the country I think that we were right in the game and leading the game; a testament to our growth as a team from last year to this year."

The Fire hit the road on Wednesday to take on Northwood University at 4 p.m.
