Volleyball Sweeps Webber

Box Score

BABSON PARK, Fla.- Fire volleyball improved to 9-5 with a hard-fought 3-0 win over county rival Webber International Tuesday night.

It wasn't as easy as the final score indicated, as Southeastern won the first two sets 26-24, then clinched the match with a 27-25 win.

In the first set, neither team led by more than two, with the Warriors holding an 18-16 lead before the Fire won 10 of the final 16 rallies to take the first set, taking advantage of three straight attacking errors by Webber.

Southeastern again found themselves trailing in the second set, down 18-15, before rallying back to take the final three points on kills by Lydia Rooth and Madeline Hanshaw, and benefiting from another Webber miscue.

The third set saw SEU hold a 17-11 lead, but the Warriors came back to tie the match at 20. With the match tied at 25, the Fire picked up the final two points of the night on a service error by the Warriors and a kill by Rooth to close the match.

Senior Carol Reis recorded a match-high 15 kills, with a .750 attacking percentage. Rooth finished with a double-double of 10 kills and 10 digs. The sophomore was one of three Southeastern players with double digit digs. Hanshaw had a match high 19 digs, and Katie Trenski added 11. Alyssa Prescott had 21 assists.
