Fire Volleyball Falls to St. Thomas

Box Score

LAKELAND, FL– The Fire volleyball team took their first conference loss of the season, as the St. Thomas University Bobcats (10-4, 3-0 TSC) swept the Fire in straight sets Saturday afternoon.

Southeastern (6-4, 1-1 TSC) couldn't get on track, as the Fire shot a meager .121 with 21 attacking errors for the match.  The Fire showed a sign of life near the end of the third set, but it was too little, too late.
The Bobcats came out swinging in the first set, taking it by a close score of 25-20.  After that, it was all STU as solid setting was the theme for St. Thomas, as setter Dana Nowaczyk put her teammates in prime attacking positions throughout the game.  St. Thomas took the second set 25-16 and the third and final set 25-18.
SEU struggled receiving serves, as the Fire allowed eight aces from the Bobcats.  They struggled on the opposite side of the serve as well, stumbling their way to seven serving errors.
Lydia Rooth and Carol Reis led the way for the Fire, raking in 12 and 11 kills, respectively.
The Fire take the floor next Tuesday night in another Sun Conference matchup, as they take on Ave Maria in Naples, FL.
