Volleyball Finishes Clearwater Christian Tournament 2-2

CLEARWATER, Fla.- The Fire went 1-1 on the second day of the Clearwater Christian Labor Day Tournament, defeating Florida Memorial 3-0, and falling in five to the hosts 3-2.

Southeastern needed just 52 minutes to win their opening match of the day against Sun Conference foe Florida Memorial. They coasted to a 25-4 win in the first set, needing just six kills on 11 attacks. The second set went to the Fire 25-13, and they closed with a 25-8 win.

Freshman Kelsey Morton led the way with six kills and a .429 attacking percentage. Katie Trenski added four aces and three digs. Lindsey Fleming assisted on 18 of SEU's 26 kills.

In the finale of the tournament, the Fire started the match with a 25-18 win over Clearwater Christian before falling 25-22 in the second set. Southeastern roared back with a 25-15 win, but the Cougars forced a fifth set with a 25-18 win. In the tiebreaker, the Fire recorded just four kills and had five errors and fell 15-13.

Senior Carol Reis recorded 14 kills, three solo blocks, and five block assists. Trenski recorded 24 digs, and Alyssa Prescott had 20 assists on 44 kills.

Next up for the Fire will be the field at the Faulkner University Tournament next Friday and Saturday.
