Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla.- On one scorcher of a Saturday afternoon, the Fire picked up their second victory of the season over Florida College, 6-0.
Momentum began early for the Fire with a goal in the 6th minute of play off the right heel of Shane Jones off a corner kick by Gustavo DaSilva.
The Fire continued to pound shots through the first half, scoring two additional goals to go up 3-0 before the horn. Christian Bores found the net after he received a cross from left wing by Gerritson Craane for the second goal of the game, while the third was finished by Victory Reyes, who left the defenders dizzy.
In the second half, the Fire didn't let up as yet another early goal was scored in the 50th minute of play. This time, it was off the foot of midfielder Tyler Gay, who was assisted by Christian Bores.
The final two goals were scored by Shane Jones, his second of the afternoon, and Nick Wilson, both of which were unassisted.
According to Coach Clay Roberts, stellar defense was played by his Fire squad, not only by the back line but by the team as a unit.
On the scoring end, Coach credits a lot of good ball movement. "It's the style of play we're trying to implement and we're seeing the fruits of it," said Roberts. "It doesn't come easy, so we just have to continue to get better."
The Fire have played 180 minutes of shutout soccer on the season, and will keep the ball rolling on Monday, September 1st at 11 a.m. when they take on Columbia International University in Auburndale.
