Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala.- After building a nine-point first half lead, the Fire were outscored 43-23 in the second 20 minutes, falling to Auburn University at Montgomery 78-62 in the final game of the AUM Holiday Classic.
In the second half, the Fire (7-3) hit on just two of their 15 attempts from 3-point range, and totaled nine field goals on 31 attempts (29%).
A 3-pointer by Kristen Scholl gave the Fire a 46-37 lead with 15:44 to play, but the Warhawks countered with an 11-2 run to tie the game at 48 with 13:31 to go. Bailey Hooker's basket at the 12:58 mark gave SEU the lead back briefly, until AUM rattled off six straight to take the lead for good.
The Warhawks scored 11 straight points and held the Fire without a basket for 3:16 to build a 14-point lead with 4:23 to go.
Southeastern fell behind 6-0 in the first 2:02 of the game, but rallied back with a 15-3 run to take a six point lead at the 13:44 mark; 12 of the 15 were scored by Alyssa Ramos. Three's by Carlie Newman (8:52) and Jackie Sweasey (7:08) gave the Fire their first nine-point advantage. Ramos hit a running 3-pointer from approximately 30 feet out to give SEU a 39-35 halftime advantage.
Ramos was the team's leading scorer with 20 points, and added three rebounds, two assists, a block, and a steal in 34 minutes. Scholl was also in double figures with 14 points. Newman and Cassidy Block each notched a team-high seven rebounds.
The Fire finished the game 34% from the field, 27% from beyond the arc, and 72% at the free throw line. AUM was 44% from the field, 35% from 3-point range, and 87% at the line.
Southeastern next takes the floor on Saturday in Miami Gardens when they take on St. Thomas at 3 p.m.
