Box Score LAKELAND, Fla.- The last time the Fire hosted Webber International in women's soccer, the Warriors drove back home with a lopsided 6-0 victory.
In tonight's Sun Conference Quarterfinal matchup, the game played out much differently. A Webber goal in the 71st minute of play advanced the Warriors to Saturday's semifinals with a 1-0 win over Southeastern.
"We had our opportunities, especially at the beginning of the second half, but we weren't disciplined enough around the box," said Coach Bronson Gambale of the Southeastern attack. "
The Fire (10-7-1) controlled play for most of the first half, and outshot the Warriors 11-5. However, the Fire were unable to clear a ball in the box on a set piece by Webber, resulting in the lone goal in the contest.
"We got caught in our age (during that play) for a moment," said Gambale. "It was a great play from an experienced team."
Webber advances to take on top-seeded Northwood on Saturday in West Palm Beach, Florida.
