LAKELAND, Fla. – On Saturday, the Southeastern men's basketball team will play in their second official game of the 2014-15 season as they trek to Brunswick, Georgia and take on the Mariners of the College of Coastal Georgia.
An 84-67 exhibition win over Nova Southeastern on November 4th was the last time the Fire saw the court. They head into Saturday with a 1-0 record after a season opening, 85-67, win over Florida College on October 24th.
In their first game of the season, CCGA fell short of Voorhees College, 95-91. They were defeated again the following day by Morris College and didn't put a notch in the left column until an 81-73 victory over Edward Waters three days later. A game against St. Thomas on Friday precedes the Fire matchup.
Senior guard Reggie Burke leads the Mariners in three games with 81 points while Darrean Wyatt, the 6'8 center, is third on the team in points, with 30, and holds the team high 37 rebounds.
The Fire's Andre Winston put up an impressive 33 points, five rebounds, and seven steals in the late October win over Florida College. Junior center Brandon Moore recorded a double-double in the same game with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
"We know they have a lot of height and the majority of their points come from rebound transitions," said Coach R-Jay Barsh. "In order to get the win, we have to rebound and force the tempo."
Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Saturday evening in Brunswick. Live coverage of the game will be available through CCGA at http://www.ihigh.com/ccga/.
