Women’s Basketball Hits the Road to CCGA

LAKELAND, Fla. – Fire women's basketball will play in their first road game on Saturday in Brunswick, Georgia as they take on the Mariners of the College of Coastal Georgia.

A 94-52 victory over Florida College on October 24th marked the Fire's first game of the 2014-15 season. Two weeks would pass before they took the court again on November 6th, notching a 57-45 win over William Carey. Another lull in the schedule gives the Fire time to prepare for the Mariners who have started their season 3-0.

The Mariners' first two wins are over Voorhees and Morris colleges, ending 75-63 and 92-82, respectively. They notched win three yesterday over Allen University of South Carolina and prepare for Thomas University on Friday before facing the Fire the following day.

Mariner Olivia Melvin leads her team in points with 47 in two games. She's also notched 11 rebounds, good for third on the team, four assists and two steals.

Sophomore point guard Alyssa Ramos threatens the Mariners with 41 points on the season, including a career high 29 in the win over Florida College. Shooting 63% overall, 67% from the arc, Bailey Hooker is also one to watch.

"The key on Saturday is to just stick to what we do best," said Coach Jody Martinez. "We'll play intense defense, a run-and-gun offense, and continue to hit the threes."

The game is set to tip-off at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday in Brunswick. Live coverage will be available through CCGA at http://www.ihigh.com/ccga/.
