Fire Rebound with 2-1 Win Over Florida College

Box Score

LAKELAND, Fla. – Coming off a loss at Embry-Riddle Saturday, the Fire came out strong this evening to down the Falcons of Florida College, 2-1.

In the 34th minute, Alyssa Kaminski beat the keeper to net the Fire's first goal after Grace Brett fed the ball from the left side. Capitalizing on a fast break down the middle in the 40th minute, Sydni Brookhouser, in her first game as a forward, wrestled the keeper and beat her to the right for the game winner.

The second half was scoreless until the Falcons netted their lone goal with seconds to play in the 90th minute.

Recording 10 attempts in the first half and eight in the second, the Fire outshot the Falcons a total of 18-2 on the evening.

"I'm very proud of our girls. We were playing a team that sat back defensively, which can get very frustrating, especially being a young team who hasn't seen that type of play yet this year," said Coach Bronson Gambale. "We believe that Ave Maria is probably going to play a similar system so it was good to have the opportunity to see it and hopefully respond better."

The Fire are set to continue their season on Saturday as they travel to Ave Maria for a 3:00 p.m. start.
