Men’s Soccer Draws Embry-Riddle

Box Score

LAKELAND, FL–In the fifth straight Sun Conference overtime match for Southeastern, the Fire came away with a 1-1 tie against the Embry-Riddle Eagles.

Ashton Hicks scored the only goal for the Fire in the 22nd minute of the first half, his third of the year. In the second half, Veit Couturier netted his eighth goal of the year for the Eagles in the 47th minute of play.

It was a game mired by fouls from both teams; both team committed over a dozen fouls each. Embry-Riddle received two yellow cards, both coming in the second overtime period.

The entire game was neck-and-neck; each team had 11 shots, but neither team was able to pull away.

"I'm proud of this group tonight because we played exactly the game plan we wanted to. We got caught flat one time against one of the best forwards in the country at this level, but we made it exciting. We had more than enough opportunities to get the game winner but it didn't come our way. We'll keep persevering and we'll stay focused," said coach Clay Roberts.

Southeastern is now 7-3-2 on the year, and 1-2-2 in conference play, good for seventh in the Sun Conference. They'll continue their slate of Sun Conference games next week, as they'll host St. Thomas next Wednesday at 7 p.m. on the campus of Southeastern University.
