Volleyball Falls in Hard-Fought Battle

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- Southeastern battled tough with first place St. Thomas on the road during a tough 3-1 loss to the Bobcats.

The Fire (13-8) trailed 24-20 in the first set, but rallied back, winning three straight set points, before the Bobcats finally got a kill to take the set 25-23.

In the second set, the Fire jumped out to a 7-2 lead, winning six consecutive points. They led 18-16, but a quick 4-0 run put the Bobcats in control of the set, and closed it with the final five points to take a 25-19 win.

The third set was close throughout, and was tied at 23, but the Fire won the final two points on a kill by Madeline Hanshaw and an attack error by the Bobcats for a 25-23 win.

St. Thomas (18-7) led 24-17 in the final set, but the Fire won six straight match points, and forced the Bobcats to call both timeout before a Fire attack error ended the match with a 25-23 win for St. Thomas.

Senior Carol Reis led the Fire offense with 17 kills and a .324 attacking percentage. Sophomore Lydia Rooth added 15 kills and a team-high 20 digs. Lindsey Fleming recorded 24 of the team's 45 assists. Senior Katie Trenski added 19 digs of her own.

The Fire return to action on Tuesday when they host Webber International.
