Slow Start Downs Fire on Senior Day

Box Score

LAKELAND, Fla. – Six Fire seniors participated in their last home game this afternoon falling short of Webber International, 2-1.

"We wanted to come out and start well and we didn't," said Coach Clay Roberts. "When you don't start well against a good team you find yourself in these positions."

Both Warrior goals occurred in the first half, hitting the back of the net in the 21st and 32nd minutes.

Down 2-0 with 11:14 to play, Pedro Ivo Dias finished a PK that ricocheted off the keeper's hands for the Fire's lone goal of the match.

The Fire had their chances as they outshot the Warriors a total of 22-16, seven of which were on frame.

"I was confident the whole game that we could come back and equalize," said Coach Roberts. "We have to do a better job of recognizing the big moment and stepping up in that."

The Fire are set to play in their last regular season game at Ave Maria on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
