Box Score LAKELAND, Fla.– 33 points from Andre' Winston helped the Fire to its first win of the year over the Florida College Falcons by a score of 85-67.
"He's the player I knew he was. He's a dynamic scorer that loves Jesus," said coach R-Jay Barsh. "When you have a guy like that, you want him to be a part of your program. He's hard to guard."
Southeastern (1-0) held a one-point lead at halftime over the Falcons (0-1). The Fire shooting went cold in the first half, shooting a meager 39% and 23% from the 3-point line. They righted the ship in the second half, however, as they held a 44% FG and shot 50% from downtown.
Brandon Moore picked up a double-double, scoring 16 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Jordan McCloud added 10 points, six rebounds, and four steals as well. Junior Caleb Konieczny made both of his 3-point attempts, and finished with eight points.
"It's going to take a team effort in rebounding like we had tonight until we get Tim Mitchell back second semester," said Barsh.
There were 13 lead changes throughout the game, but SEU started to pull away with 10:53 left in the second half. The defensive effort of the Fire wore the Falcons down, as SEU forced 26 turnovers while outscoring Florida College 46-29 in the second half.
Southeastern is off for the next 10 days. On November 4, they'll travel down to Fort Lauderdale to take on the Nova Southeastern University Sharks at 7:30pm.
