Fire Score First Win over St. Thomas

Box Score

LAKELAND, Fla. – This evening, for the first time in school history, the Fire women's soccer team defeated the Bobcats of St. Thomas, 2-1.

The Fire put the first on the board in the 12th minute of play when Alyssa Kaminski challenged the keeper up the middle and finished from 12 yards out. The Bobcats' Michelle Bailey answered in the 24th minute to even the score at one.

With just 35 seconds left to play in the first half, Karly Palmar one-touched the game winner off a flawless Kaminski cross from the right side.

Scoring lacked in the second half, but not without attempts as the Fire added an additional three shots to total 12 on the night.

"I think we played better soccer the first half, but the second half showed our team's grit," said Coach Bronson Gambale. "We amped this game as a playoff game and I like how our girls responded because they refused to give up. I'm very proud of what we accomplished today."

The Fire, now 8-5 on the season and 3-3 in conference play, continue on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. as they take on Florida Memorial in Lakeland.
