Southeastern University Releases Inaugural Football Schedule

LAKELAND, Fla.- Southeastern University Director of Athletics Drew Watson announced the release of the University's football schedule for 2014, the inaugural season for the Fire.

The 10-game slate begins in Alabama on September 6th at 7:00 p.m. against Faulkner for the program's first contest.  The first home game in Fire history will be on September 13th against Warner University at 7:00 p.m. in the university's new stadium.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the first-phase of the stadium project will take place on November 14, and the project will be completed in time for the Fire's opening season.

"We have full confidence in our architect and contractor that our stadium will be completed and ready to go for our first game," said Executive Vice President Brian Carroll.

"I can sense an excitement for the start of football not only on campus but around Lakeland as well," said Watson.  "We're looking forward to taking the field next fall and are excited to be hosting our Polk County rival Warner for the first home game."

In week three, the Fire are back on the road in Selma, Alabama, to take on Concordia.  Following a bye week, SEU will host Edward Waters (10/4) and Birmingham Southern before traveling to Ave Maria on October 18th.

Homecoming weekend (10/25) welcomes in Point University for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. The Fire will travel to Webber International the following week, then will host Limestone College for the home finale before traveling to Berry University to close out the regular season.

"In our first season of competition, we face a challenging schedule," said Head Coach Keith Barefield. "We have a good mix of both NAIA and NCAA opponents. We definitely look forward to the challenge, as well as the establishment of some spirited rivalries," he added.  "Our young program will have to grow up quickly if we are going to experience any degree of success against this lineup of teams."

Of the 10 opponents on the 2014 schedule, six are members of the NAIA, one is NCAA Division II, two are NCAA Division III, and one is a USCAA member. The Fire will host five games and travel for five games.
