Matthew Winfrey

Matthew Winfrey serves as the Director of Strength and Conditioning at Southeastern University, overseeing all aspects of athletic performance for the Fire. In this role, he leads daily operations, staff development, and athlete training programs while collaborating with sport coaches and athletic trainers to enhance performance, safety, and overall athletic development.

Winfrey was promoted to Director after serving as Associate Director of Football Performance, where his leadership and commitment to athlete growth helped elevate SEU’s strength and conditioning program.

Before joining Southeastern, Winfrey gained extensive experience across several Division I and Power Four programs, including Alabama, Florida State, Notre Dame, and Sacramento State. His background includes designing and implementing performance programs for football and Olympic sports such as track and field, rowing, and golf.

A graduate of The University of Alabama, Winfrey earned both his Master of Science in Kinesiology (Sports Administration) and Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology (Exercise Science) with a minor in Nutrition. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a USAW Level 1 Coach, with plans to obtain CSCCA certification in 2025.

Guided by his faith and passion for athlete development, Winfrey strives to cultivate a culture of excellence, discipline, and service—preparing student-athletes to excel in sport and in life.

Winfrey is engaged to Kaley Mudge. Together, they share two dogs: a German Shepherd named Jax and a Labrador Retriever named Nala.
