YPSILANTI, Mich. — After two rounds at the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship, the Southeastern women's golf team remains firmly in contention near the top of the leaderboard, sitting fifth overall at 36-over par through 36 holes at Eagle Crest Golf Club.
The Fire carded a second-round 307 on Thursday to move to 612 overall, just four shots off the tournament lead entering Friday's final round. NAIA programs Dalton State and British Columbia share the lead at 32-over par, while SCAD Atlanta and SCAD Savannah remain just ahead of Southeastern entering the final 18 holes.
SEU continued to separate itself statistically across the field, leading the championship in par-4 scoring at 4.32 while ranking second overall in total pars with 106 through two rounds.
Sadaly Campbell once again led the Fire lineup and enters Friday tied for seventh overall at 6-over par following back-to-back rounds of 75. Campbell posted 13 pars during the second round, including pars on each of her first six holes of the day. She added a birdie on the par-3 fourth and recovered from a double bogey on No. 5 to play her final 13 holes at even par. Campbell remains tied for second in the field in par-4 scoring at 4.05 while also sitting tied for second overall with 26 pars through two rounds.
Abbey Peterson is tied for 21st overall at 10-over par after shooting 79 in Thursday's second round. Peterson highlighted her day with a birdie on the par-4 eighth and closed strong, playing her final five holes at 1-under par.
One of the biggest jumps of the day belonged to
Alejandra Cuellar, who climbed 76 spots up the leaderboard after firing a 1-over-par 73, the low round of the day for Southeastern. After a bogey on No. 11, Cuellar responded by playing her next 10 holes at 3-under par, fueled by birdies on Nos. 15, 18, 3, and 5. Starting on the back nine, she turned in 35 on her opening side and finished the round tied for sixth in the championship with five total birdies through 36 holes.
Emma Tobias moved into a tie for 53rd overall at 15-over par after carding an 80 in round two. Tobias produced one of the highlights of the day for the Fire with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 6 and 7 during a 36 on the front side.
Savannah Thessing sits tied for 48th overall at 14-over par after an 82 on Thursday. Thessing closed her round on a positive stretch, finishing par-birdie-par-par across holes 6 through 9.
Southeastern will tee off in Friday's final round beginning at 8:20 a.m. as the Fire continue their pursuit of the program's first national championship.
