YPSILANTI, Mich. — Southeastern women's golf battled through difficult conditions and a weather delay to finish the opening round of the 2026 NAIA Women's Golf National Championship tied for third at Eagle Crest Golf Club.
The Fire posted a team score of 305 (+17) during a first round that began Tuesday before storms suspended play and forced the remainder of the round into Wednesday morning. Tournament officials later shortened the championship from 72 holes to 54 holes because of the delays.
Southeastern enters round two just four strokes off the tournament lead. Dalton State leads the field at 301 (+13), followed by Truett McConnell at 303 (+15), while the Fire and British Columbia are tied for third at 305 (+17).
Leading the way for Southeastern were
Sadaly Campbell and
Abbey Peterson, who each carded rounds of 75 (+3) to sit tied for seventh individually in the 156-player field.
Campbell put together one of the steadiest rounds of the day for the Fire lineup. The freshman recorded a birdie on the par-four eighth hole and played steady golf throughout the closing stretch to remain inside the top 10 entering round two.
Peterson matched Campbell's 75 with a consistent performance of her own. She recorded a birdie on No. 11 and turned in a one-over-par 37 on the front nine while helping Southeastern stay near the top of the team standings throughout the round.
Savannah Thessing also delivered a strong opening performance, shooting 76 (+4) to move into a tie for 22nd individually. Thessing birdied Nos. 1 and 12 while posting a one-over-par 37 on the back nine.
Emma Tobias added a 79 (+7), highlighted by birdies on Nos. 13 and 15, while
Alejandra Cuellar rounded out the lineup with an 83 (+11) that included a birdie on No. 10.
British Columbia's Katherine Hao holds the individual lead after posting the tournament's only even-par round of 72. Five golfers are tied for second at 2-over par, while Campbell and Peterson are part of a 15-player tie for seventh at 3-over.
Round two is scheduled for Thursday, with Southeastern teeing off at 1:50 p.m. ET from No. 10. Following 36 holes of competition, the field will be reduced to the top 15 teams and ties, along with the top six individuals not on an advancing team and ties, for Friday's final round.
