LAKELAND, Fla. -- Behind a near-flawless performance from Martina Picardi, Southeastern Women's Tennis secured a 4–0 home victory over Florida National on Saturday afternoon.
With Florida National limited to a four-player lineup, Southeastern was awarded forfeits at No. 3 doubles and No. 5 and No. 6 singles, giving the Fire an immediate 2–0 advantage.
In the lone completed doubles match, Picardi and Alessia Ciampi dominated on court one, cruising to a 6–0 win over Valeria Perez and Celeste Reyes to clinch the doubles point. On court two, the duo of No. 44 Leonie Schondelmaier and Aurora Compagnucci was tied 3–3 when play was halted due to the clinch.
Picardi, ranked No. 28 nationally, sealed the match in decisive fashion, blanking Julieta Reyes 6–0, 6–0 on the top singles line.
At the time of the clinch, Southeastern held commanding positions across the remaining courts. No. 75 Isabella Bolivar Garces led Perez 6–0, 5–0 on line two, while No. 58 Ciampi had just taken the opening set 6–3 against Julia Chodkowska on line three. No. 59 Schondelmaier was also in control, holding a 5–4 edge over Celeste Reyes on line four.
Southeastern now turns its attention to a key match against No. 6 Xavier (La.), set for 10 a.m. on Monday in Lakeland.
