No. 4 Fire Defeat No. 7 Bees in Emphatic Home Statement

SEU took control after tight doubles play to stay perfect at home.

LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 4 Fire stayed perfect at home this afternoon, rolling No. 7 SCAD Atlanta, 4-1, at the Beerman Family Tennis Complex.

Southeastern bounced back after dropping the opening doubles match. On flight one, the NAIA No. 1 doubles team of SCAD Atlanta's Shalimar Talbi and Adrianna Kluska defeated SEU's Martina Picardi and Alessia Ciampi, 6-2. The Fire quickly answered on flight three as Leonie Schondelmaier and Aurora Compagnucci rolled to a 6-1 win over Joann Leijten and Stella De Vera.

All eyes then turned to flight two, where SEU's Isabella Bolivar Garces and Irene Parigi erased a 4-1 deficit, stealing a 7-5 victory from Carmine Becoude and Manuella Eloundou to give the Fire an early 1-0 advantage.

The Fire took that early edge and commanded the rest of the match. No. 62 Garces was first off the court on line three, defeating Anastasija Stojanovic 6-4, 6-1 to extend the lead to 2-0. Ciampi followed soon after with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory over Joann Leijten on line five, putting Southeastern up 3-0.

SCAD Atlanta responded on line one, where No. 2 Talbi defeated No. 29 Picardi 6-2, 6-3, granting the Bees their only point.

The clincher came on line six from freshman Compagnucci, who secured the match for Southeastern with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Kluska.

Two matches remained unfinished when play was stopped. Schondelmaier had rallied to split sets on line two against Becoude, 4-6, 6-4, while No. 53 Parigi was locked in a tight battle on line four at 6-0, 2-6, 2-1 with No. 74 Eloundou.

Now 6-2 on the season, the Fire will next face NCAA Division II Middle Georgia State tomorrow at 10 a.m.
