GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Southeastern track & field turned in a strong showing at the Gainesville Indoor Classic, highlighted by a school record, a record-tying vault, multiple event wins, and a collection of NAIA qualifying marks as the Fire continued to build momentum during the indoor season.
The headline performance came from
Jack Brooks, who broke his own school record in the men's 1000 meters with a winning time of 2:28.45. The mark not only gives Brooks the top two times in program history but also ranks No. 2 in the Sun Conference and No. 1 all-time at SEU. Brooks led a deep Fire contingent in the event, with Jeremy Durbin (2nd, 2:34.44) and Ethan Esposito (3rd, 2:34.75) helping Southeastern claim three of the top four spots.
Kaleb Mellott and
Spencer Louis rounded out the top five to showcase SEU's middle-distance depth.
In the women's 1000 meters,
Jadyn DeVerna claimed the event win in 3:10.03, a time that ranks No. 3 in the Sun Conference. Caroline Van Utrecht and
Skyla Stevens finished second and third, respectively, giving the Fire another strong podium presence.
Riley McKinney and
Natalie Rohm added fourth- and fifth-place finishes.
Southeastern's race walk group delivered some of the meet's most impactful results.
Ashlyn Poulin won the women's 3000m race walk in 14:25.58, earning an NAIA 'A' standard and moving to No. 3 nationally and No. 2 in the Sun Conference.
Jocelyn Rivera and
Juliet Leatherbarrow finished second and third, both hitting NAIA 'B' standards and ranking inside the national top 10.
Tiarra Jackson added a fourth-place finish to cap a dominant outing.
On the men's side,
Kodi Quimby won the 3000m race walk in 14:14.81, ranking No. 5 in the NAIA and No. 1 in the conference while meeting the NAIA 'B' standard.
Nathaniel Chenowith followed in second with another 'B' standard and a top-10 national mark.
In the field events,
Madison Bates tied the school record in the pole vault at 3.30m (10'10"), a mark that ranks No. 1 in the Sun Conference and ties the top mark in program history.
Jonathan Grant placed fourth in the men's pole vault at 4.55m, the top NAIA finish in the field and No. 2 in the conference.
Throws were another bright spot, led by Charlotte Cattermole-Williams, who finished second in the weight throw at 17.79m, the top NAIA finish in the competition. Her mark ranks No. 6 nationally, No. 2 in the conference, No. 2 in SEU history, and meets the NAIA 'A' standard.
MarieAnge Moussignac added scoring performances in both the weight throw and shot put.
In the jumps and hurdles,
Jeremiah Rutledge cleared 1.94m for fourth in the high jump, the top NAIA finish in the field and No. 2 in program history.
Dario Laing placed second in the 60m hurdles in 8.08, hitting the NAIA 'B' standard and ranking No. 2 in the conference.
Looking ahead, Southeastern will continue its indoor campaign at the Vanderbilt Music City Challenge on Friday, February 13, 2026, in Nashville, Tenn. The all-day meet will provide another high-level opportunity for the Fire to chase national qualifying marks and build on the momentum from Gainesville as the postseason approaches.
