GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Southeastern Track & Field delivered a strong performance at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational, producing school records, Sun Conference-leading marks, and multiple top NAIA finishes across sprints, distance, and field events.
The Fire were paced by a historic effort from
Jack Brooks in the men's 1000 meters. Brooks captured first place with a time of 2:30.45, breaking a 12-year-old school record and establishing the fastest mark in the Sun Conference this season. He later doubled back in the 800 meters, clocking 1:58.30 to move into fifth place on SEU's all-time list while also owning the top time among Sun Conference competitors.
On the women's side,
Charlotte-Marie Cattermole-Williams continued her remarkable early-season form in the weight throw. She claimed first place with a throw of 17.02 meters (55' 10 1/4"), breaking her own school record for the third consecutive meet. The mark ranks No. 8 nationally in the NAIA and currently leads the Sun Conference.
Middle-distance standout
Maci Mills delivered a pair of strong performances in the women's 1000 and 800 meters. Mills finished second in the 1000 meters in 3:06.78, moving into 10th all-time in SEU history, before adding a third-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.45, which ranks ninth all-time. Both performances led all NAIA competitors in their respective fields.
SEU also posted multiple victories and podium finishes in the field events.
Jonathan Grant earned first place in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.65 meters (15'3"), tying for ninth all-time at Southeastern, ranking No. 6 in the NAIA, and standing as the top mark in the Sun Conference.
Madison Bates continued her consistency in the vault, clearing 3.10 meters (10'2") to remain tied for the conference lead and tied for third all-time in program history.
The Fire showed depth across the jumps and throws, as
Emma Terry finished second in the shot put as the top NAIA finisher,
Alyssa Morley placed second in both the long jump and triple jump while recording the top Sun Conference mark in the triple jump, and
Jeremiah Rutledge tied for second in the high jump with a clearance of 1.95 meters, matching his place among the top 10 in school history.
Strong performances also came on the track from
Areeyanna Bonds, who finished second in the 400 meters in 1:00.18 as the top NAIA finisher, while
Dario Laing posted a third-place effort in the 60-meter hurdles (8.24) to rank second in the Sun Conference while still holding the league's top time overall.
Derek Robinson,
Skyla Stevens, and
Ashlin Price added conference-leading or near-leading marks in the distance events, rounding out a complete team effort for the Fire.
