LAKELAND, Fla. – The Fire kept rolling on Tuesday. Southeastern University shut out its fourth opponent in a row with a 7-0 win over Cumberland University (Tenn.).
Between the first two doubles matchups finished and the first three singles matches completed, the Fire (7-2) outscored the visiting Phoenix by a 24-3 margin to seal the win.
The top doubles pairing of Carlotta Nonnis Marzano/Irene Lopez did not give up a game to Cumberland's Juanita Mendez/Emilia Nowak. Third doubles of Isabella Bolivar Garces/Irene Parigi gave SEU the doubles point with a similar 6-0 final over Valentina Mendez/Madeleine Darud.
Picardi continued the trend for her second singles battle against Cumberland's Ame Van Eijk by a 6-0 and 6-1 scorecard. Parigi added her second victory in a 6-0 and 6-2 fourth singles decision over Valentina Mendez. Alessia Ciampi gave the Fire the clinching singles win past Lara Zugasti in a 6-2 and 6-0 final.
Nonnis Marzano put SEU's fifth point up as she claimed the top singles bout over Elina Sungatullina of Cumberland in a 6-3 and 6-2 score.
Bolivar Garces and Lopez worked harder for their singles wins with three-set matches. At third singles, Bolivar Garces dropped the opening set to Cumberland's Nowak, before she rallied for 6-3 and 10-4 scores. In the sixth singles, Lopez was similar with a close 4-6 first-set loss to Asya Tilsim Timur, but she also rallied for 6-2 and 10-5 finals for the win.
Picardi and Ciampi took the second doubles by a 6-3 tally over Kaede Hatano/Zugasti.
The Fire return to action when they make the short trip to Rollins College on Saturday for a 1 p.m. first serve.
