HIALEAH, Fla. – The Fire cruised to victory for a second time over the weekend. Southeastern University scored a 4-0 shutout of Florida National University in women's tennis action today.
After the doubles point was earned by identical 6-2 finals, Neleah Neiberline recorded her second win of the day in the third singles (7-5, 6-3) over Nadia Abad, to clinch the Fire victory.
With the win, SEU wins its 15th match in 20 tries and seven of the last eight to improve to 15-5 on the season. It was also the Fire's second 4-0 shutout of the weekend.
Carlotta Nonnis Marzano and Alessia Ciampi started the afternoon in top doubles with a 6-2 margin over the Conquistadors' Abad/Alara Juelide Akgul. Right after its completion, Neiberline and Irene Lopez earned SEU the doubles points with the third doubles match win (6-2) over Natalia Cavo and Fabioila Bsereni.
Irene Parigi began the SEU singles trio of victories with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 scores at fourth singles over Florida National's Akgul.
Marzano continued her top play in the number one singles spot with a 6-2, 6-3 straight-sets win over Julia Chodkowska.
Neiberline capped the win as she took care of business at third singles over Abad.
In the unfinished matches, Isabella Bolivar Garces was teaming with Parigi and held a 4-3 second doubles lead over Chodkowska/Lavana Anais Karadza.
After she dropped the first set in a close 4-6 score, Bolivar Garces had a 3-2 lead in the second set over Celeste Deniz Reyes when it was halted.
Ciampi was on her way to a fifth singles victory when her bout with Cavo was stopped with scores of 6-1, 2-1.
Lopez held an early 3-1 first-set advantage over Bsereni in the sixth singles match.
SEU is off until April 8, when they host Eastern Florida State College on April 8 in a 1 p.m. first serve.
