LAKELAND, Fla. – The Fire made it two straight shutouts on Thursday afternoon. Southeastern University took all three doubles and continued the success in the singles as it blanked the University of Mary, 7-0, in women's tennis action.
Irene Lopez and Alessia Ciampi made quick work of their Marauders opponents by losing only four combined games and were part of two of the three winning doubles pairings.
At sixth singles, Lopez took care of Umary's Luba Moyo in quick fashion (6-1 and 6-0) to complete her match first. Lopez teamed up with Carlotta Nonnis Marzano in the top doubles match with a closer, 6-4, final past the Marauders' Chloe Chong Zhi Jing/Ilona Freitag.
Ciampi was next, as she quickly prevailed over Valeria Bradley in the fifth singles bout by a 6-2, 6-1 total. In third doubles, Ciampi and teammate Neleah Neiberline held Bradley and Moyo scoreless, 6-0.
Irene Parigi kept the lower singles match success going as she defeated Mary's Anna Sueflohn (6-2, 6-1). Parigi and Isabella Bolivar Garces had the second doubles victory, 6-3, over Maria Estinvil/Sueflohn.
Rounding out the SEU singles wins, Marzano took a close first set, 6-4, before she finished the top singles match, 6-1, over Chong Zhi Jing.
Bolivar (6-3, 6-1) won at second singles over Freitag and Neiberline posted identical (6-3, 6-3) finals past Estinvil.
The Fire return to action on Saturday against Ottawa University (Ariz.) at Beerman Tennis Complex. First serve is at 11 a.m.
