Fire Shut Out by NCAA II No. 4 Embry-Riddle

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Fire didn't shy away from facing tough competition out of the gate. NCAA Division II's No. 4-ranked Embry-Riddle University prevailed over Southeastern University, 7-0, in women's tennis action on Saturday.

Starting off the day in doubles, the SEU second pair of Irene Parigi and Alessia Ciampi recorded a 6-4 victory over the home team's Benedetta Sensi and Franzi Kremerskothen. The Eagles, though, took the other two doubles matches by the same 6-2 finals for the point.

SEU battled tough as three of their six singles competitors won a set and forced a third set. At the second spot, Isabella Garces won the first set (6-4), but dropped the third set by a 3-10 final to No. 46-ranked Hadipoe. Parigi bounced back and took the second set (7-5), but she dropped a close 8-10 third set to Carla Cabero del Hie. Irene Lopez started strong with a 6-2 first set, but she couldn't take the third set of the number six match, 4-10.

SEU returns to action against Davenport University on Tuesday, Feb. 25, in Orlando.
