Fire Build Momentum with Strong Results in Second Indoor Meet

SEU earns school records, NAIA standards, and event wins in another encouraging all-around performance

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The SEU Track & Field teams continued their early-season progress with another strong showing in their second meet of the 2025–26 indoor campaign, producing school records, national-level marks, and personal bests across multiple event groups. With both the men and women showing improved depth and competitive sharpness, the Fire left the weekend with momentum building across the entire roster.

The women's throws unit led the way, highlighted by Charlotte-Marie Cattermole-Williams, who continued her record-breaking pace in the weight throw. After opening the season with a school record, she surpassed it again with a throw of 16.08 meters, then pushed the mark even farther in finals with an outstanding 16.79-meter effort to finish fourth overall. Emma Terry and MarieAnge Moussignac added strong performances of their own, landing inside the top ten with throws of 14.52 meters and 14.41 meters, respectively. Moussignac also posted the Fire's top result in the shot put at 12.16 meters, while Terry followed at 11.15 meters.

Alexandria Gonzalez recorded a personal record in the long jump at 5.21 meters to finish 21st. In the high jump, Alyssa Morley cleared 1.50 meters, and Jessica Brown earned a new PR at 1.45 meters, adding depth to SEU's vertical jumps group.

On the track, sprinter Olga Gomez delivered one of the strongest all-around performances of the meet. Gomez hit NAIA "B" standards in the 60 meters (7.56) and 200 meters (24.77), then placed fifth in the 60-meter final with a time of 7.57 after qualifying in 7.65. Ar'Briel Scott produced a pair of lifetime bests, running 8.90 in the 60-meter hurdles final after an 8.91 qualifying time, and adding a PR of 26.42 in the 200 meters. Areeyanna Bonds also had a solid day, placing sixth in the 400 meters (58.08) and running 25.98 in the 200.

Jeremiah Rutledge highlighted the men's field performances by tying the SEU school record in the high jump with a clearance of 2.00 meters, finishing fifth overall. Rutledge also added a 6.38-meter long jump performance, complementing Isaiah Burns, who placed 14th at 6.66 meters.

Malik Blunt paced the men's track efforts with a third-place finish in the 400 meters (49.22) and a strong 7.01 showing in the 60-meter prelims. Derion Ayliffe contributed marks of 7.06 in the 60 meters and 23.18 in the 200, while the Fire showed impressive depth in the 400 with Trebreh Brown (49.92), Cedric Johnson Jr. (50.14), Kevin Davis Jr. (50.50), and Zakaiel Crawford (50.86) all finishing among the top 17 competitors.

In the throws,  Lucky Baldwin led SEU in the weight throw at 13.78 meters, with Cole Cammarata topping the team in the shot put at 12.90 meters.

The men capped the meet with a strong performance in the 4x400-meter relay, as Davis, Brown, Johnson, and Blunt combined for 3:19.23, finishing first overall.

Southeastern returns to action on January 15 at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational in Gainesville, Florida, where the Fire will look to continue their upward trajectory as the indoor season begins to tighten into its midyear rhythm.
