LAKELAND, Fla. – Southeastern University battled No. 11 Keiser University to a scoreless tie in Sun Conference men's soccer action this evening.
The Fire blistered two shots on goal in the first 13 minutes of play and Fabio De Paula booted a third at 36:44 as the lone balls on net in the first half. Esteban Navarrete turned away Keiser's first shot on goal at 50:43 in the early second half and later stopped a second attempt at 84:31. The Fire's Sebastian Riebartsch hit the match's final try with 2:10 left in the match was saved and the rivalry ended in the deadlock.
Keiser edged the total shots taken total, 11-8, but SEU put four on net compared to only two by the Seahawks.
The tie with the Seahawks follows a strong showing by the Fire against No. 4 St. Thomas last Saturday night in a 3-2 loss in Miami Gardens. The team is playing at a high level as The Sun playoffs approach and making a strong case for an NAIA Top 25 ranking.
SEU moves to 6-3-2 for the year with the draw. The Fire return to action on Saturday night in a 7 p.m. match at Warner University.
