Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Donnie Smith

Quick Start Not Enough as Men’s Soccer Drops Match at St. Thomas

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.—Skylar Funk's third goal of the season got the Fire off to a good start in The Sun Conference match of the week, but ultimately, Southeastern dropped to 4-2 on the season with a 2-1 loss at St. Thomas.

Funk finished a volley from the right wing in the 13th minute to give the guests the early lead.

The early goal, along with some solid defensive play in the beginning of the half looked like it would bode well for Southeastern. Goalkeeper Carlos Curado finished the night with five saves after seeing 12 total shots.

The team had to defend four St. Thomas corner kicks, which the Bobcats used to generate their first goal in the 23rd minute on a header.

In the second half, the Fire had a hard time getting the offense going taking just two shots and three corner kicks.

With 7:01 to play, St. Thomas found the back of the net for the game winner to improve to 4-1.

The Fire will return to action on Saturday at home against Ave Maria at 1 p.m.
